California is the area west of the Sierra Nevada mountains to the Pacific Ocean.
Great Basin RegionThe Great Basin is located between two mountain ranges (Rocky and Sierra Nevada). There are flatlands where very little grows.
Northeast RegionThe Northeast region is bordered by the Great Lakes to the North and the Great Plains to the West.
Northwest Coast RegionThe Northwest Coast is a narrow strip of land between the pacific ocean on the west and mountains in the east.
Plains RegionThe Plains are a huge grassland in the center of the USA. Snow covered, and very cold in the winter and very hot in the summer
Plateau RegionThe Plateau area is located north and west of the Great Basin and composed of many mountains and forests.
Southeast RegionThe southeast is a land of mountains, rivers and forests in the north and grasses and swamps in the south.
Southwest RegionThe Grand Canyon is in this region. The days can be very hot and the nights very cold.
Totem poles are a tradition of Northwest Coast Region Indian tribes and are mostly carved from large red cedar trees.
